UNCONVENTIONAL BEAUTY

 It's okay for Californians to admit their love of New York City, especially if it's the new Manhattan collection from Gabriel Dean Anderson. Anderson, who heads his eponymous firm, Gabriel Dean Design, worked with renowned designers Jamie Drake and Vicente Wolf in New York City before relocating to Northern Utah to devote himself to furniture design. Manhattan is comprised of startlingly innovative seating, case pieces and tables, all marked by a dramatic slicing of metal accents. The Mott sideboard, which debuted in the window display at Natural Curiosities as part of the Legends of La Cienega design event this May, epitomizes Anderson's knack for the unorthodox: Traditional shelving is eschewed for exciting angles and surprising cubbies. "His spin on furniture is very unique and unlike anything I've seen," says Una Malan, who represents the brand at her West Hollywood showroom. The line is also available at HEWNX in the San Francisco Design Center.
